Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 (Human Swine Influenza )
Important notice to parents, carers and staff
Australia has moved to the "protect" phase to manage Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 (also known as Human Swine Influenza).
Under the new "protect" phase, Queensland has the flexibility to close single schools or classrooms to students in special circumstances as advised by Queensland Health.
Education Queensland is working closely with Queensland Health and will continue to be guided by the advice provided by their medical experts in relation to any situations where action by schools would benefit the school and broader community.
The symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of seasonal influenza, including : fever, cough, sore throat, runny or blocked nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.
Preventative measures include:
* Washing hands frequently with soap and water or using an alcohol based hand gel
* Washing hands prior to touching eyes, nose or mouth
* When coughing or sneezing, cover the mouth and nose with tissues which should be disposed of.
